A native of Ft. Smith, Don graduated from Northside High School in 1959, and from Arkansas Tech in 1963, with a BA in History.
After serving in the US Army in Europe and Vietnam, he joined Systematics, Inc., in 1969, when the company was a one-year-old startup. For the next 26 years he led various parts of the company’s business in banking technology operations, software licensing, and international operations, retiring in 1995 after a career as one of Systematics’ (later part of Alltel Corp.) most senior officers.
In 1996 he became President and CEO of Arkansas Systems, Inc., a respected provider of ATM network software for mid-sized commercial banks in the US, Southeast Asia, Central Europe, and other locations, retiring for the second time when the company was sold to Euronet in 1998.
In 1999 he joined Acxiom Corp. as a Senior Business Advisor, advising corporate management on situations including multiple mergers, acquisitions, and other complex situations in the US and internationally. In 2005 he founded MareNostrum, Inc., a technology management consulting firm.
Don served for many years as President of the Youth Opportunities Unlimited advisory board, and as an advisory board member of the Psychiatric Research Institute, a part of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He also served as President of the Arkansas Academy of Computing from 2008 to 2010.
