Jennifer Barrett is responsible for oversight of Acxiom Corporation’s global public policy, privacy and information practices. In this capacity she provides direction for Acxiom’s information use policy across all global operations, internal compliance with legal regulations and industry guidelines, consumer affairs, government affairs and related public relations. She also consults with clients on various information practices and regulatory issues. Jennifer joined Acxiom in 1974 after receiving a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked in almost every facet of the company, from systems development and operations to marketing and business development. Jennifer has served in an executive capacity since becoming a vice president in 1981 and has guided Acxiom’s initiatives to safeguard consumer privacy since 1991. She has been extremely active domestically and internationally in the area of appropriate information practices. With extensive knowledge of all U.S. federal and state laws governing the use of information, she is sought out by U.S. policy makers, regulators, and government agencies for her views on effective use of personal information. She has also worked with all of Acxiom’s overseas operations in Europe, Canada, Latin America and Asia and has participated in numerous international efforts to influence the development of public policy, develop industry best practices, and achieve maximum harmonization of information practices across the world. As an expert on issues related to privacy and customer relationship management, Jennifer is a regular speaker – both domestically and abroad – on best practices regarding personal information in a variety of industries, including financial services, retail, insurance, publishing, travel and entertainment, and government use of information. She has testified numerous times before the U.S. Congress about privacy and security matters. She has published numerous articles and participated in writing books on these subjects. Jennifer is currently active on a variety of industry boards and councils. She is vice chair of the U.S. Direct Marketing Association Political Action Committee (PAC). She sits on the DMA Safe Harbor Ethics Committee. She serves on the Social Media Marketing Council (SMMC). She is past founding Chair of the DMA Committee on Environment and Social Responsibility and past co-chair of the Program Committee for the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. She is also a member of the Mobile Marketing Association’s Privacy Committee. Jennifer is an advisor to the Centre for Information Policy Leadership and the Political and Economic Research Council (PERC) which are both focused on global policy matters. Jennifer supports educational activities in the fields of direct marketing and served on the faculty of the Interactive Marketing Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University. She also lectures at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and at Little Rock on the subject of privacy. Jennifer is active with her alma mater as a member of the Chancellor’s Council and the College of Natural Science Foundation Advisory Council at the University of Texas. She has also been elected to the Arkansas Academy of Computing. She is currently the Missions Chair for the First United Methodist Church in Maumelle Arkansas.
