John James is a family practice physician who, on the last day of his residency, gave up medicine for the adventure of innovation. John paid for medical school with proceeds from his first ecommerce company, a quiz bowl question business he founded from the comfort of his dorm room at the University of Arkansas in 1995. A serial entrepreneur by nature, John has built and sold multiple businesses centered around search engine marketing, including ventures in keyword arbitrage, multichannel niche retail, and hyperlocal online media.
As a member of the UALR community, she served on many university committees. These include the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, the North Central Athletics Association Certification Steering Committee, Information Technology Planning Committee, the Network Security Team. She authored the UALR Business Continuity Plan and served as the chair of the Academic Computing Information Technology Committee. She contributed to the Distance Education Steering Committee to coordinate distance education programs to US system campuses and managed shared services technical support to the University of Arkansas System Office, the University of Arkansas Clinton Sciences and the Arts.
He was the CEO of Country Outfitter/Acumen Brands. John drives the Acumen team to innovate in the extreme. Because, to paraphrase George Bernard Shaw, all progress depends on unreasonable men. He is the Founder and CEO of Hayseed Ventures, a business accelerator in Fayetteville. John is one of the key people in the emerging startup ecosystem of Arkansas.
