Winners Announced for the 2022 Computer Science
Students of Distinction Awards
The Arkansas Academy of Computing in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Education has announced the recipients of the 2022 Computer Science Students of Distinction Awards. This year, 53 students from 11 schools were named. There are 26 juniors and 27 seniors in this year’s class. Each has been recognized in their school and will be added to the over 100 awardees from previous years on the Academy’s website.
The Computer Science Students of Distinction Award (CSSoD) program was created in 2019 by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) to recognize high school juniors and seniors for their academic achievements in computer education. The Arkansas Academy of Computing, with a membership of over 200 accomplished computer science professionals, partnered with ADE to promote this program.
The application process is open to students currently enrolled in the 11th and 12th grades in an Arkansas public, private, or home school. The criteria used to select the recipients are accomplishment in:
- · Computer Related Academics
- · Competitive Achievements
- · Personal Growth
- · Service to others
Because of the program’s success, more partners have joined in this program. New partners for 2022 include: CSforAR, IMPAC, the Arkansas Computer Science Teacher Association, the Arkansas STEM Coalition, and the Arkansas Community Foundation.

“The Arkansas Academy of Computing was founded to advocate for the positive impact that computing and information technology education can have on our state, our communities, and the people of Arkansas,” said Eugene Jones, President of AAoC. “The Computer Science of Distinction Award is an inspiring way to do that at the beginning of this ‘pipeline’ of innovation and vocational skills development. These students will lead us into the next wave of our rapidly changing world. We are especially grateful that so many other great partners also see this awards program as a powerful and positive opportunity for high school students of Arkansas.”
About the Arkansas Academy of Computing
The Arkansas Academy of Computing is an organization made up of individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of Computing in Arkansas. In addition to providing administration and funding for the CSSoD, the Arkansas Academy of Computing provides supplemental scholarships to computer science students at these Arkansas universities: Arkansas State University, Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, South Arkansas, UA Fayetteville, UA Little Rock, UA Monticello, UA Pine Bluff, and the University of Central Arkansas.
